Just got back from Cape Town, and I’m still not over it. Between mountains that look like they were Photoshopped, sunsets that make your phone feel inadequate, and activities that made me question why I’ve been sitting at a desk all week… this city does not play around.

If you only have time for three adventurous things, these should be at the top of your list:

1. Kayaking Around Green Point & Sea Point

Paddling along the coastline with Table Mountain in the background? Yes, please. It’s one of those views that almost feels fake — the kind where you keep stopping mid-paddle because the backdrop looks like a movie set.

The water along Green Point and Sea Point is surprisingly calm most mornings, and the whole experience feels like getting a front-row seat to the Atlantic. We saw loads of wildlife - dolphins included - and we even saw penguins swimming to head further south! Our guide was also one of those people who actually makes a tour fun (rare), pointing out marine life, sharing local stories, and keeping the whole thing relaxed instead of overly “tour-y.”

Pro tip: Go early. The water is calmer, the wind hasn’t picked up yet, and the soft morning light makes the coastline - and Table Mountain - look even more dramatic in photos. Your arms (and your camera roll) will thank you.

2. Garden Route Weekend Trip

If Cape Town is the appetizer, the Garden Route is the main course. Think dramatic ocean cliffs, hidden waterfalls, charming little towns, and those random roadside coffee stops that somehow end up being the best latte you’ve had in months. My favorite thing - most rest stops along the Garden Route are full-on farm stands! Local produce, cafes, and every stop seemed to have a playground for kids (why can’t all rest stops be like that?!). It’s one of those drives where you keep saying “wait… we need to pull over again.”

Our group trip packed a lot in without feeling rushed: two safari-style game drives (safari experience without having to go to Kruger National Park!) where we spotted everything from zebras to giraffes, an epic coastal hike with sweeping ocean views, and a stop at Bloukrans Bridge to watch people either conquer their fears… or casually throw themselves 700+ feet off a bridge (the world’s highest commercial bungee, by the way). Whether you jump or just watch from solid ground with wide eyes is entirely up to you (I did not jump - my hands were sweating even talking about it).

The real highlight, though, was our overnight stay in Sedgefield - the kind of small, slightly untouched beach town that feels like a secret. Massive dunes, empty stretches of sand, and sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. We ended the night with wine on the patio and fell asleep to the sound of waves.

Pro tip: Give yourself 2–3 days for the route. Any less and you’ll feel rushed. Any more… and you might start wondering why you ever planned to leave.

3. Tandem Paragliding from Signal Hill

Apparently, I enjoy screaming while pretending to be a bird. Tandem paragliding is the closest thing to flying without a plane ticket. Floating over Cape Town with Table Mountain behind you and the ocean in front? Unreal. Truly, it’s not as scary as you think it will be. Get the photo/video package - your Instagram will thank you.

  • Book your tandem paragliding tour early so you don’t have to stress - time slots fill up fast!

  • Wind is a HUGE factor, so you may need to reschedule (we had to reschedule 3 times, but it’s worth it!)

  • Optional add on: GoPro footage - yes, your friends will be jealous.

Final Thoughts

Cape Town isn’t just a city you visit - it’s a city that makes you actually do things. Kayak along the coast, road-trip the Garden Route, paraglide over the city, and maybe just sit somewhere afterward and stare at Table Mountain like a normal human. Truly, South Africa just might be one of my favorite countries.
